Occurs at depths from 10 to 55 m (Ref. 800). Cryptic, rarely seen on reef flats and lagoon, very rare on seaward reef (Ref. 102252). Found on a reef slope (Ref. 100368). Juveniles graze on organic materials and adults feed on small, sessile invertebrates (Ref. 800). Associated with coral communities (Ref. 129602).

Members of the class Asteroidea exhibit both asexual (regeneration and clonal) and sexual (gonochoric) means of reproduction. Life cycle: Embryos hatch into planktonic larvae and later metamorphose into pentamorous juveniles which develop into young sea stars with stubby arms.
