Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 10 - 311 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: from North Carolina to Gulf of Mexico, Antilles to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs on sandy, gravel, coral and broken-shell bottoms (Ref. 104219). Also on deep reef (Ref. 104217). Members of the family Xanthidae range from being algal scrapers to aggressive predators (Ref. 103027).
