Distribution:  Arctic, Northeast Pacific, Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean: from Alaska to Canada and Florida, east to Egypt and north to Svalbard. Polar to subtropical.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Both a carnivore and surface deposit feeder; feeds on diatoms, detritus, copepods, foraminiferans and on a variety of small invertebrates (based on the feeding ecology of the family Hesionidae; Ref. 87179) (Ref. 2711).
