Max. size:  5.8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 20 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Girdle: Wide with an elongated extension at the head valve giving rise to common name of 'jockey-cap chiton.' Bristles: Sparsely scattered on this smooth fleshy girdle, heavier on the 'cap' area. Mucro: Posterior and depressed. Central areas: Smooth. Lateral areas: Raised and defined by wide diagonal rib and smooth. Whole surface of the valves: Marked with concentric growth lines. Color of valves: Variable in pink, green, blacks and mottled. Girdle: Cream colored, bright pink in life (Ref. 296).
Biology:  Usually found in areas of moderate wave action or tidal flow, on the tops, sides, and bottoms of rocks, under ledges, and in crevices; in Oregon, often found in sea-urchin excavations in bedrock exposed to heavy surf (Ref. 290).
