Description synthétique
Morphologie
Far-spaced corallites resemble craters that are pock-marking the surface. Occur in different forms: large flat plates; having edges that curve upward to a cup; or as large mounds with pillars sticking up. Usually grey or purplish grey in color.
Found on sandy reef flats and deep sandy bases (Ref. 98471). Has locally high bleaching level and high estimated mortality in Palau (Ref. 66144).

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
