Colony: massive, hemispherical or columnar, often over 1 m across. Corallites: only slightly angular, with thick rounded walls. Septa: irregular length, tapering from the wall to the small columellae. Thick paliform lobes. Color: uniform cream or brown, sometimes with orange centers (Ref. 848).

Hermaphroditic (Ref. 113712). Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end (Ref. 833).
