Colonies are encrusting, knobby, rarely columnar. Coralites are widespread with coenosteum styles usually small but distinctive. Dark or pale greenish brown, or mottle dark green usually with white polyps.
Usually found only in high latitude environments (Ref 847). Forms encrusting sheets on shady habitats like walls and overhangs (Ref. 98471).

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
