Mainly feeds on rocks covered by filamentous green algae. Makes sand pellets while feeding to separate edible from inedible materials (Ref. 104857). Displays occasional predatory behavior and cannibalism - reported to kill conspecifics and other ocypodid crabs (Ref. 104855).
