Remarks | Overall vertical distribution extends from subsurface waters to depths in excess of 1,000 to 1,500 m. Paralarvae and juveniles up to about 40 mm mantle length occur from subsurface depths to around 400 m, while older animals extend progressively deeper with growth. This ontogenetic descent extends to about 1,500 m where the largest specimen caught to date was a 243 mm mantle length subadult (Ref. 97142). |
