Ecology of Macrophthalmus milloti

Main Ref. Takeda, M. and T. Komai, 1991
Remarks Found in soft muddy bottoms in the intertidal zone of estuarine areas. Typically inhabits small pools on deal coral reef platforms, always on shores of open sea. Occurs at low tide (Ref. 103131). Subtidal (Ref. 106854). Seldom goes out of holes. Climbs on small stones or debris to reach water surface (Ref. 103131). Associations

Ref. Kobayashi, C. and M. Kato, 2003
Associations symbiosis;
Associated with Octolasmis unguisiformis.
Association remarks O. unguisiformis is ectosymbiotic with M. milloti, where it is attached to the ventral side of the crab carapace. The cirripede resembles the chelipeds of the male host crabs.
