Remarks Inhabits shallow waters at depths between 1 and 90 m, mostly between 1 and 5 m; among rocks, often in the surf zone, sometimes in somewhat turbid water (Also Ref. 9773). It is gregarious and nocturnal (Refs. 4, 9773). Forms groups, taking shelter in and around rocks and crevices. Omnivorous scavenger with a preference for mussels. Juveniles favor feeding on barnacles (Ref. 9773).
