Ecology of Paralomis granulosa

Main Ref. Arana, P.M.E. and M.A. Retamal, 1999
Remarks Juveniles are found attached to holdfasts of Macrocystis sp. providing them with mechanical shelter. While adults are found in sheltered inshore waters with soft and hard bottoms (Ref. 87801).

Associations

Ref. Stevens, B.G., 2014
Associations parasitism;
Associated with bopyrid isopod Pseudione tuberculata; Briarosaccus callosus (parasitism), liparid fish Careproctus sp. (commensalism).
Association remarks Pseudione tuberculata invade host P. granulosa at an early crab stage and remain infesting until the parasite dies. The liparid fish Careproctus sp. (Scorpaeniformes) lay their egg masses inside the gill chamber (Ref. 113901).
Parasitism inside host (resides on the left branchial chamber (rarely in the right); produces a conspicuous bulge on the carapace (Ref. 113901).)
