Remarks | It occurs in both offshore pelagic and inshore fishes, and thus must have a broad range of tolerances and intermediate hosts. Associations: variety of other worms occurred in the stomach and intestine of dolphin with this host. Host Specificity: occurs in dolphin and filefishes; a peculiar pattern considering that these 2 families of fishes are not closely related. It is a primary, but not a characteristic parasite of dolphin. The single records in wahoo from Puerto Rico and a porcupinefish, Diodon hystrix Linnaeus, from Jamaica probably represent false or accidental hosts (Ref. 359). |
