Family:  Muricidae (purpuras, murex and rock shells)
Max. size:  15.5 cm DL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 83 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific and Western Atlantic: Caribbean to Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Shell elongate, anterior canal wall developed, 3 axial varices present on last whorl, varices with foliated spines, surface sculpture of flat spiral cords and cordlets in the interspaces. Colour: variable, with dark and pale spiral bands, aperture whitish.
