Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 1 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: USA, Colombia and the West Indies.
Diagnosis:  Valve color: Variable; blackish brown; olive with flecks, patches and lines of whitish merging together towards the middle; or purplish brown or light-olive with zebra like stripes on the sides. Valve surface: Smooth except for a microscopic, silky texture. Lateral area: Little raised (Ref. 281).
