Environment:  sessile; marine; depth range 0 - 20 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific, Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. Tropical and subtropical.
Diagnosis:  Complementary nematocysts (i.e. nematocysts other than small microbasic euryteles) heterotrichous anisorhizas; female blastostyles completely reduced (sometimes a few degenerated tentacles remaining on top), spadix bifurcated, mature eggs scattered along the pedicel thickened by a perisarc capsule typically fenestrated; male blastostyles completely reduced (Ref. 3086).
