Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 2 - 18 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Andaman Islands to Japan, Australia, New Caledonia, and Hawaii. Tropical to subtropical.
Diagnosis:  Head shield or veil is not as pronounced as in Plocamopherus but the six branched papillae are much longer when extended. There are four branched papillae down each side of the body and a slight ridge in between denotes the mantle edge. Body color ranges from pale yellow-orange to a deep orange-red, with white specks scattered. The branched papillae have translucent white stalks with some scattered opaque white pigmentation. Pointed branches are bright orange.
