Family:  Fasciolariidae (horse conchs, spindle shells)
Max. size:  28 cm SHL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 40 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: from East Africa, to Melanesia; north to Japan, and south to northern Queensland and New Caledonia. Apparently rare in Australia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Collected for food and for the large, heavy shell in many areas. Mature shell is traditionally used as a trumpet when the tip of the spire is cut off (Ref. 349).
