Diagnosis: |
Dark green in situ. Varied sizes of polyps are arranged in groups rather than in rows on a fairly thick encrusting coenenchyme. Sandy particles cover the coenenchyme and body-wall. Greatly thick mesogloea. Well-developed mesogloeal sphincter present, very long and tapering downwards. Tentacles are short and in two series of about 40. Mesenteries in brachycnemic arrangement (Ref. 89044). |
Biology: |
Occurs in large dense patches in rock-pools between tide-marks. Colonies cover rock surfaces at areas with minimum sunshine (Ref. 89044). |
