Sponge of massive form or more often out of thick blade. Osculus a few mm in diameter, dispersed. Primary fibers: 0.005 - 0.007 cm diameter, deprived of marrow and foreign bodies. Secondary fibers: 0.003 - 0.004 cm diameter.
Maximum depth from Ref. 125945. Maximum size: 20 cm. Importance: exploited in small quantities, mainly in Tunisia (Ref. 363).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
