Short description Morphology

20 to 25 m wide, 50 to 100 high; exumbrella rough; in each octant six wide, short, rounded velar lappets; each leaf of the three-winged mouth arms with many flat, fern-like expansions; a single very long filament arises from the distal end of one of the mouth arms.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
