Short description Morphology

Trunk and neck short; ocular tubercle wider than long; eyes very large. Proboscis inflated proximally, forming truncate cone distally in lateral view. Chelifore palms ovoid; fingers as long as palm, armed with 9 or 10 slender, simple teeth. Palp second segment longer than third. Oviger fourth segment with distal fringe of setae. Tarsus short, less than 0.3 length of propodus; claw shorter than auxiliary claws (Ref. 2115, p. 70).

Members of the class Pycnogonida are gonochoric and sexually dimorphic. During copulation, male usually suspends itself beneath the female. Fertilization occurs as the eggs leave the female's ovigers. Males brood the egg masses until they hatch. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into protonymphon larva then to adults.
