The fastest swimming pinniped, it is found in coastal and continental shelf waters; frequent bays, harbours, and river mouths and regularly haul-out on buoys and jetties. Feeds on squid, octopus, and many species of fishes (Ref. 1394). Preyed upon by the great white shark (Ref. 32140) and the broadnose sevengill shark (Ref. 8910).
