Description A semi-enclosed LME bordered by the Yellow Sea, the Kuroshio Current, and the countries of China, South Korea, and Japan, the East China Sea is productive; its shallow coastal waters provide spawning and nursery grounds for many pelagic fish, among them sauries, horse-mackerel, sardines, and other scombrids and clupeid species. The warm Tsushima Current originates here, and the area is also strongly affected by interaction with the bordering Kuroshio Current (http://www.na.nmfs.gov/lme/text/lme47.htm).
