For more than four years, I worked with WWF-Philippines on marine mammal research and conservation. I managed the humpback whale project in the Babuyan Islands, organized and led cetacean vessel surveys in various sites around the country, and acted as the coordinator of the National Marine Mammal Stranding Network. I have a Masters degree in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management; Bachelor of Science degree in Biology; and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. My interests lie mainly on marine mammal science, historical marine ecology, coastal resource management, protected area management and wildlife medicine. I am currently working on my own independent research projects on humpback whale photo-identification and vocalization recordings in the Babuyan Islands; historical whaling in the Philippines and, marine education and sustainable fisheries awareness in Bohol. My most recent research takes an interdisciplinary approach in looking at interactions between communities and their environment, with particular focus on Filipino coastal communities. |
