Dr. Hoeksema's specialities are marine biodiversity, marine biogeography, coral taxonomy, coral phylogeny, coral symbionts, reef coral ecology. His major research themes focus on: 1) The Indo-Malayan centre of marine biodiversity: the Coral Triangle; 2) Evolution of inter-specific associations of coral reef organisms (phylogenetic ecology); 3) Taxonomy, phylogeny and biogeography of reef corals; 4) Marine biodiversity in relation to conservation; and, 5) Historical changes in marine biodiversity of tropical coastal areas. |
