Geography and Climate The terrain of the islands ranges from high and mountainous to low, with coral atolls. There are volcanic outcroppings on Pohnpei, Kusaie, and Chuuk. The climate is tropical, with heavy, year-round rainfall, especially on the eastern islands. The country is occasionally damaged severely by typhoons, especially from June to December.
