Massive amorphous: 10 - 30 cm thick. Yellow to orange externally, and internally. Surface smooth to slightly rugose. Large oscules with membranes: 0.5 - 3 cm in diameter, and smaller ones 0.1 - 0.3 cm. Compressible, easy to break, apart (Ref. 415).
Maximum thickness: 30 cm (Ref. 415). Inhabits canals of sponges (Ref. 83410) and attaches to rock and rubble among Thalassia sea grass in mangroves and protected lagoons (Ref. 82087). Also found on reefs (Ref. 415).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
