Definition of Term

ambergris
(English) Waxy substances, varying in color from white to almost black, which accumulate in the intestine of the sperm whale. Ambreine and Epicoprostanol are two important typical chemicals in these complex substances. Used mainly as fixative in the perfume industry; demand much reduced now because of synthetic substitutes.
