osmoregulation
(English) The technique by which fish regulate and maintain their internal water and salt concentrations against those in the surrounding environment; the biological strategy employed by fish to regulate and maintain their internal water and salt concentrations against the water and salt concentrations in their surrounding environment, i.e., saltwater or freshwater. osmorégulation
