Definition of Term

pre-oral cleft
(English) Small, retractable appendages on each side just forward of the pelvic fins of mature male chimaeroid fishes; concealed within a slit when retracted; also known as prepelvic tentacula. (See also: oral, pelvic fins, chimaeras)
appendices pré-oraux
(French) Petits appendices rétractiles situés de chaque côté et en avant des nageoires pelviennes des mâles matures chez les chimères ; cachés dans une fente lorsqu'ils se rétractent ; aussi dénommés tentacules prépelviens. (See also: oral, pelvic fins, chimaeras)
