Definition of Term

single oviparity
(English) A mode of egg-laying or oviparity in which female sharks produce encase eggs in pairs, which are not retained in the oviducts and are deposited on the bottom. Embryos in the egg-cases are at an early developmental stage, and take a few months to over a year to hatch. Found in almost all oviparous cartilaginous fishes. (See also: oviparity, egg capsule)
