Western Atlantic: Nova Scotia, Massachusetts to Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to Maranhão, Brazil.

Common depth is based on occurrence; to be replaced with a better reference. Benthopelagic (Ref. 97531). Found on mud, sand and shell substrates (Ref. 104060). Fishes prey on this crab (Refs. 34001, 55089, 104230). In general, portunid crabs are reported to be mainly carnivorous (Ref. 72665).
