Inhabits mangrove swamps (Ref. 1028). Collected near Rhizophora mangle roots (Ref. 116577). Uses vision to locate habitats with high prey densities. Feeds on copepods aggregating in light shafts produced by gaps in mangrove canopy (i.e., mangrove prop roots). These light shafts attract their crustacean prey, which, when they occur in large numbers, can make the light shafts more visible. Hunts only during the day and rests on the bottom at night (Ref. 116832).
