Smooth valves although minutely granulose under close examination. Color: Colored scarlet to dark-red with some flecks of gray or white. Girdle: Naked, leathery and brownish in color (Ref. 281).

Members of the class Polyplacophora are mostly gonochoric. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into lecitotrophic planktonic trocophore larvae (no veliger stage) which later metamorphose and settle on the bottom as young adults.
