Winters along Pacific coast from Aleutian Islands to Mexico, across South of USA along Gulf coast, North to New England, Greater Antilles (Ref. 356). Feeds on small snails, insects and animal larvae in freshwater habitats, and clams, snails, amphipods and worms in marine ecosystems (Ref. 94965). Common diving depth of 1 to 5 m (Ref. 115854).
