Encrusting: 0.2 - 5 cm thick; soft and fragile. Color variable, from reddish orange to gray. Distinctive bright orange specks scattered throughout the surface (Ref. 415).
Maximum thickness: 5 cm (Ref. 415). This is an epibiotic species found on submerged vegetation and hard substrates (Ref. 108813). Very common species, encrusting mangrove roots, also found on pipes or pile (Ref. 415).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
