Short description Morfologia

Greenish gray to yellow. Hemispherical and bristly, with until 2 large conical papillae that contracts when disturbed. Up to 11 cm in diameter (Ref. 089939).

Biologia     Glossario (es. epibenthic)

Common on cliffs and hard surfaces. Also settles on small stones then extend out onto to the mud. Apparently able to remove sediment build-up by contraction and relaxation. Suspension feeder; preyed upon by starfishes. Larvae disperse by crawling (Ref. 089939).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
