Dark green in situ. Varied sizes of polyps are arranged in groups rather than in rows on a fairly thick encrusting coenenchyme. Sandy particles cover the coenenchyme and body-wall. Greatly thick mesogloea. Well-developed mesogloeal sphincter present, very long and tapering downwards. Tentacles are short and in two series of about 40. Mesenteries in brachycnemic arrangement (Ref. 89044).

Biologie     Fachlexikon (Englisch) (z.B. epibenthic)

Occurs in large dense patches in rock-pools between tide-marks. Colonies cover rock surfaces at areas with minimum sunshine (Ref. 89044).

Life cycle and mating behavior Geschlechtsreife | Fortpflanzung | Ablaichen | Eier | Fecundity | Larven

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
