Found from depths of 5 to 40 m on reefs, generally under overhangs (Ref. 337). Single valves, often of large size, commonly washed up on the beaches (Ref. 88739).

Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam.
