Color: cinnamon-tan, orange-yellow, yellow. Morphology: thick encrustations to masses, lobate, tube. Smooth surface, with scattered fields of pores in concave areas. Subsurface color is purple brown; internal color cream. Consistency: crumbly, soft.

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
