Scarlet red to orange. Erect cylinder or bushes. Spicules protrude from numerous evenly-spaced spiny, roundish processes forming the surface. Tough consistency.
Dwells in lower mesophotic reefs, heavily silted reefs, coralline algae reefs, shallow coral reefs and hard substrates (Ref. 128739).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
