Convoluted surface; vase morphology (Ref. 81728). Surface smooth in places, rarely entirely smooth. Compressible and elastic. Color: creamy orange (Ref. 81728), pink, lilac, pale blue; often with bluish-pink iridescence (Ref. 85482).
Occurs chiefly on coral reefs starting at a depth of 18 m, often with bluish-pink iridescence (Ref. 85482).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
