It is found on rocky substrates or under large stones from the intertidal areas to a depth of 100 m. They feed on yellowish encrusting demosponges (Ref. 87801).

Spawning is observed during southern summer and autumn. Egg mass is extremely long, up to 1 meter, white ribbon forming a spiral with up to 20 cm and up to an estimated 1 million eggs.
