This species is found on nearly vertical to horizontal rocky walls at depths of 0 to 32 m. They are also used as a substrate by some algae and bryozoan species (Ref. 87801).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
