This species is found on steep rock walls at depths of 10 to 100 m. It is often used as a substrate by other species such as tunicates and cnidarians or is epizoic itself (Ref. 87801).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
