Attached to hard rocky substrata on continental shelf banks, along with an array of invertebrates such as other lithistid sponges, molluscs, bryozoans, brachiopods, echinoderms, hydroids, and stylasterid hydrocorals (Ref. 89546). Found on the upper slope (Ref. 106682). Filter-feeder (Ref. 68823).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
