Short description Μορφολογία

10 to 12 cm wide, exumbrella with polygonal network of nematocysts; velar lappets well separated, without a connecting membrane, shape, size and number variable; arm-disk with numerous short, slender filamanets; mouth-arms without a naked terminal portion; intracircular canal system with comparatively large, open meshes.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
