Shell moderately elongate, moderately inflated. Sculpture of numerous, coarse radial threads irregular in size. Pallial sinus large. Hinge with 2 cardinal teeth, lateral teeth absent. Umbones slightly coiled inward. Colour: variable (usually brighter internally), yellow, or stained with red, rose, or purple.
Fisheries: Darkly coloured visceral mass and gritty texture are apparent causes for restricted consumption (Ref. 351). In shallow water, sand or sandy mud bottoms (Ref. 344). Infaunal (Ref. 104365). Intertidal; sometimes found near mangroves (Ref. 799).
Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam.
