Inhabits both intertidal and subtidal mud and sand. Salinities of 1 to 33 parts per mile and temperatures of 1 to 28 °C (Ref. 3166).

Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam.
